Child Car Seat Safety Day
Child Car Seat Safety Day
Saturday, Sept 30th @ 10AM - 2PM

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Several state and local law enforcement agencies are joining with The 24/7 Movement to host a free Child Car Seat Safety Day, September 30, 2023 at Westwood Baptist Church.
Beginning at 10 a.m. and running through 2 p.m., the event will give parents and other child care providers an inside track on how to properly install and inspect child car restraint seats while providing a car seat assistance program for families that could use the help.
Led by The 24/7 Movement which honors Dustin and Brittany Dillard who lost their lives at the hands of an alleged impaired driver last Christmas, the event is also being sponsored by the Bradley County Sheriff’s Department, the City of Cleveland Police Department, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office and several businesses and faith-based organizations.
“Not only will we be teaching folks how to properly install and inspect child car seats, but there will be plenty of fun events for the entire family,” said Randy Bonner, Executive Director of The 24/7 Movement.
In addition to face painting and free pumpkins, participants will have the opportunity to climb aboard a fire truck, police car and other rescue vehicles. They’ll also be rewarded for bringing in their old and worn car seats. Barbeque and refreshments will be available while Barney Fife and Ollie Otter will be making special appearances throughout the day.
The 24/7 Movement was created to honor Dustin & Brittany’s memory while raising awareness to the hazards and potentially irrevocable consequences of impaired driving. Bonner said the name if the foundation is significant for several reasons.
“Two Four Seven commemorates the ages of the Dillard’s sons when the accident occurred,” Bonner explained, “and The 24/7 Movement also is a constant reminder to be diligent about impaired and distracted driving 24 hours per day seven days per week.”
The Dillard grandparents credit the child restraint seats for saving the lives of their three grandchildren on that fateful Christmas evening.
"Our two-year-old grandson, Pryor, is alive today because he was securely strapped into a five-point harness car seat in at the time of the crash," Matt Dillard said.
“And, Brittany was passionate about car safety and always made sure their boys were properly secured in the safest of child care seats,” added Terri Dillard. “There’s no doubt in our minds it was because of the Lord’s protection and the car seats we still have our three grandchildren with us today!”
During the Car Seat Safety Day, other family safety activities will be ongoing including a seat belt convincer; tractor trailer safe drive zone; a smoke trailer; and a tire check. And, when the kids want a break from learning about safety, Bonner said they can hop inside an inflatable and jump until their hearts’ content.
Other program sponsors include Mix 104.1 Radio/Mix TV, Village Tire Company, the Tennessee Trucking Foundation, Smoothie King, Trucking Care Foundation, Green Acres market, and Westwood Baptist Church which is located at 4001 Georgetown Road in Cleveland.
